Owned by Sue Clowes, Cooper Oaks Design debuted in 1996, and was named after the family dairy ranch in California where Sue grew up. Sue has an interior design degree from Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design in San Francisco, and majored in art and interior design at the University of Pacific in Stockton, California and Washington State University at Pullman, Washington.

Sue comes from a long line of needlepointers, including her great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and a cousin that also designed, and has aunts, cousins, and nieces that also needlepoint. Sue's daughters have needlepointed since they were young children, and both of her daughters are in the industry-Danielle is the owner of 'Birds of a Feather', and Denise has been a partner in Cooper Oaks Design since 2007.
